come in...

thomas windings world

Throughout his life, Thomas Winding dabbled in a world of different artistic expressions. He was full of ideas, colors, drawings and paintings, films, stories and music. Rooted in a humanistic view of humanity, he took children seriously on an equal footing with adults.

Thomas Winding loved life, and with his sense of the comic and the subtle, he sought to portray the beautiful, the poetic, and the moving in life through his pictures and stories.

Thomas Winding was always busy

... with everything that occupied him and that he loved. In the course of a day, for example, he could sit and write a story for a film or a book, weed the garden, play the piano, bass or trumpet, bake a loaf of bread, work on a painting or on the illustrations for a book.

Thomas Winding drew and painted all his life. When he eventually began to write stories, he realized that even when he wrote, it was not the WORDS he had to sit and look for, but the PICTURES that gave the stories: with drawing and painting. But it would be several years before he realized, in his own words, that even when he wrote, it was not the WORDS he had to sit and look for, but the PICTURES that gave the stories.

When I close my eyes and sit and wait

...then the pictures come. At first they are quite blurry, but if I wait patiently, they become completely clear. I see pictures of people I know, houses I have visited and countries I have been to.

I see images from films and drawings from books I have read. But also images I do not know. Strange houses, animals and plants, Indians, elves and angels. And sometimes they become stories. And they must be stories that lie in the darkness and wait to be told.

Thomas Winding: “A box of pictures”.

Many remember Thomas Winding for his voice

...but the voice would not have been remembered without the stories he told, and the stories would not have been created without the images.

We would like to take you into that part of his world.

When you look at his wonderful pictures, you can close your eyes and wait for the pictures to become your own stories.

Really enjoy! stories.
